How do I plan my first route?
Create an outing from Home, add your stops and requirements, then tap Done to calculate and save it. Start Now is a separate action that begins the outing.

Create and calculate an outing
- On Home, tap New Route under Plan your day.
- Enter a Route name. A nonblank name enables the starting-point control.
- Tap Choose starting point. Choose Current Location or select a place using search, Contacts, saved places, or recent places. A new route has no preselected starting point.
- Choose Outing day: Today, Tomorrow, or Choose date, then choose the Date.
- Tap Add Stop, choose a destination, review its details, and confirm with Add Stop. Add at least one valid stop.
- Under Finish, choose an End route option. New routes default to Return to start. Choose Last stop to finish at the final errand, or Another place and then Choose ending place for a separate endpoint.
- Tap Done. Wait for calculation to finish and review the saved outing’s details.
Set clock requirements on individual stops through Visit Window. There is no route-level departure clock to enter. The planner includes driving, expected visit durations, and waiting when calculating a feasible order.
Start when you are ready
Done saves the outing without beginning it. Check the itinerary and timing, then tap Start Now in route details when ready to depart. This refreshes estimates for the actual departure, uses the actual day for stop times, and starts the first leg’s tracking if permission allows. It stays in Radar Route; Apple Maps does not open automatically.
A Current Location start is resolved during calculation and again when a new outing actually starts. Once a round trip is active, its original return destination stays fixed even if remaining directions are calculated from somewhere else.
Understand the starting point and finish
The starting point and a separate finish are not errands in the stop count. Return to start and Another place add a final driving leg after the errands. Last stop ends the outing when the last remaining visit is completed or skipped.
Save or discard your changes
Tap Cancel in the route editor to discard its draft. Selecting a place, viewing its details, or backing out of a stop screen does not confirm that stop. Finish the stop and then the parent route editor.
Done stays disabled until the name, starting point, stops, and any custom ending place are valid. If calculation fails, the editor stays open and the previously saved version remains unchanged. Correct the stated issue and retry Done.
