How do I edit or reorder a route?
Use Route Actions to edit the route, refresh its estimates, or explicitly request a new stop order. Ordinary estimate refreshes retain the current order and recorded progress.

Edit an unfinished route
- Open the route and tap the ellipsis labeled Route Actions.
- Choose Edit Route. Tap a stop to change it, use Add Stop for another visit, or swipe a stop to delete it.
- Confirm each stop edit, review the finish and remaining requirements, then tap Done.
- Use Cancel to discard the draft instead.
For an active outing, the original starting point is fixed. If location is unavailable, choose Plan remaining stops from and select where you are now. This provides a calculation origin without moving the original return destination.
Completed and skipped visits remain recorded. Deleting a stop also removes requirements that refer to it. Finished or cancelled outings use Use Route Again to create a new trip.
Move a visit earlier or later
- In route details, touch and hold an eligible remaining stop in Itinerary.
- Choose Move Earlier or Move Later.
- Review any requirement or timing message. A new outing order is saved only after its timing check succeeds.
These controls cannot move through completed or skipped history. First/last and dependency requirements still apply. A manually chosen order survives ordinary editing and estimate refresh until you explicitly request optimization.
Choose the right calculation action
| Action | When to use it |
|---|---|
| Optimize Route | The route has no ready estimates and needs calculation. |
| Optimize Again | Before starting, ask the planner to reconsider the stop order. |
| Re-optimize Remaining Stops | During an outing, reconsider only the remaining route while retaining progress. |
| Update Driving Times | Refresh active estimates while keeping the current order. |
| Cancel Calculation | Stop a calculation running in route details. |
For an outing with deadlines, Update Driving Times refreshes guidance. Returning from Apple Maps does not trigger an automatic reoptimization prompt.
If the route changes during editing
If a message says the outing changed during editing, search, or review, close that stale draft and reopen the current route. This protects newer completion, skipping, or edits. A failed calculation keeps the previous saved itinerary; it does not silently replace it.
