How do I start Radar Mouse at login or quit it?

Radar Mouse’s app menu is on its menu bar icon. It controls automatic startup and quitting the running app.

In this article

Open the app menu

  1. Find the Radar Mouse icon in the menu bar.
  2. Right-click it, or hold Control while clicking it.
  3. Choose Launch at Login or Quit Radar Mouse.

A normal click opens the device controls. A right-click or Control-click opens the app menu and closes an open device panel. These actions are not in a separate settings window.

Turn automatic startup on or off

  1. Open the app menu.
  2. Look at Launch at Login. A checkmark means macOS currently reports Radar Mouse’s login registration as enabled.
  3. Click an unchecked Launch at Login to request automatic startup. Click a checked item to turn automatic startup off.
  4. Open the menu again to check its current state.

Turning startup off leaves the current Radar Mouse session running. Turning it on does not reset device preferences. On a future launch, the app reads the saved choices for detected devices; scroll reversal also needs Accessibility access.

Radar Mouse does not automatically enable Launch at Login just because you opened the app. The checkmark reflects the current macOS registration, so an existing registration may already be enabled.

If you need confirmation that automatic startup works on your Mac, log out and back in when convenient, then check for the menu bar icon. There is no Dock icon or main window to wait for. An unrecognized Accessibility grant can cause the welcome window to appear at startup.

If startup does not work or the checkmark stays off

  1. Make sure you can open your installed copy of Radar Mouse manually.
  2. Open System Settings → General → Login Items & Extensions.
  3. Check Radar Mouse’s entry and any approval or background-activity control macOS presents. If an entry refers to an app that was moved or removed, use the installed copy.
  4. Return to Radar Mouse and reopen the app menu. Check Launch at Login again.
  5. If it still stays unchecked, record the macOS version and what System Settings shows for a support report.

Apple documents the pane and moved-item warning in its Login Items & Extensions guide.

The current Radar Mouse menu does not show registration errors or an “approval required” state. An unchecked item can mean more than an intentional off choice. Repeatedly clicking it is not proof that registration succeeded. If macOS shows a registered item waiting for approval, manage that state in System Settings; the app’s switch does not fully handle that case.

Quit the app or just close the panel

To quit, right-click or Control-click the menu bar icon and choose Quit Radar Mouse. The icon disappears, and Radar Mouse stops processing scroll events. Your saved direction choices remain for the next launch.

To close only the controls, click the icon again, click in another app, or press Escape while the panel has focus. Radar Mouse keeps running.

Quitting does not disable Launch at Login. If it remains enabled, Radar Mouse can start again at a later login. Quitting also does not restore the native trackpad option; turn Disable trackpad off or change the system option if you want to restore the internal trackpad while the mouse remains connected.

Open the installed app again to resume using your saved directions. For a comparison with macOS scrolling or a temporary pause, see stopping reversal.
