How do I take portrait and landscape photos together?

Select Photo mode, frame both views, and press the white shutter once.

In this article
  1. Tap the camera symbol above the shutter to select Photo mode. The shutter's center becomes white.
  2. Wait for any camera switching to finish. Check the 3:4 portrait preview and the 4:3 landscape window.
  3. Choose the camera setup, zoom, focus, and flash before the shot.
  4. Tap the white shutter, Take photo, once.
  5. The screen briefly blinks white to acknowledge the shutter. Wait for the capture and save to finish.
  6. Allow Photos access if asked, then wait for Both saved to Photos.
  7. Open Photos to view the two images.

Photo size and format

Still-photo quality is automatic. The app requests the largest photo dimensions supported by its active camera format and keeps the actual cropped pixels. Record in 4K controls videos, not a photo-resolution setting. The portrait and landscape crops can have different pixel counts.

Resolution depends on the iPhone, chosen camera, zoom, crop, and single-camera versus simultaneous-camera setup. Do not expect every phone, lens, or Dual Lens/Both shot to deliver 48-megapixel images. Simultaneous-camera formats can offer smaller still sizes than a physical camera running alone. The app uses HEIC when it can encode it, with JPEG fallback.

Timing with two cameras

One shutter requests the pair, but separate cameras do not necessarily expose at the identical instant. Flash and camera processing can increase the gap, particularly in rear-plus-selfie mode. For moving subjects where closer timing matters, choose Camera controls → Flash → Off. This improves the setup for closer timing; it does not guarantee identical exposure times.

A dimmed photo shutter can mean capture, save, or configuration is still in progress, that the selected setup cannot provide photos, or that Both previews are not ready. Wait for readiness; if an Error explains a pairing failure, choose another supported rear lens under Both Cameras or use a rear/selfie-only setup.
