How do I set up Radar Camera and allow access?

Radar Camera uses an iPhone running iOS 26 or later. Hold it upright: the app captures the portrait and landscape versions while its interface stays in portrait orientation. Camera access is required. Microphone access is optional, and photo-library access is needed when saving.

Open the viewfinder for the first time

  1. Open Radar Camera and allow camera access in the iOS prompt.
  2. Wait for Starting camera… to finish and for the live previews to appear.
  3. On a fresh installation, the app starts with rear-camera video, Dual Lens off, HD video, Face tracking on, and Flash → Automatic. The video and camera symbols above the shutter switch between Video mode and Photo mode.
  4. Because video is the starting mode, iOS also asks for microphone access if it has not been answered before. Allow it for sound, or decline to record silent video.
  5. When the first capture finishes, allow the app to add it to Photos. This request happens at the first save, rather than as a separate setup screen.

Previously chosen shooting mode, quality, flash, lens settings, and face preference may already be restored on an existing installation. Rear/selfie/Both arrangement itself starts on rear when the app launches; it is not a saved arrangement preference.

If camera access was declined

The app shows a Camera card with Open Settings and the explanation that it cannot capture without the camera.

  1. Tap Open Settings.
  2. Enable Camera for Radar Camera in iOS Settings, if the device permits it.
  3. Return to Radar Camera. It rechecks access when foregrounded; reopen it if iOS restarted the app.

The app cannot override an iOS restriction. If the camera setting cannot be changed, access must be resolved in the device's settings or management policy.

Manage permissions later

  1. While idle, tap the gear button, Settings.
  2. Scroll to Permissions.
  3. Tap Camera, Microphone, or Photo Library. A Not Set row requests that permission in the app. Allowed or Not Allowed opens iOS Settings to manage the previous answer.
  4. Return to Radar Camera and wait for the camera to be ready before starting another take.

Camera or Microphone changes in iOS Settings can restart the app. A microphone grant during capture work is applied when the camera becomes idle. It does not add missing audio to a video already recorded. After permission is granted, the microphone can remain active in the camera session even in Photo mode, but the app saves audio only with video recordings. Photo Library access is add-only; the app does not need to read your existing library.
