How do I frame both portrait and landscape?

The large preview is the portrait output. The smaller bordered window above the shutter shows the landscape output live. Both outputs are created during capture; the landscape version is not an edit made from the finished portrait video afterward.

Check both views

  1. Hold the iPhone upright.
  2. Choose Video mode with the video-camera symbol, or Photo mode with the camera symbol.
  3. Position the subject in the large portrait preview.
  4. Check the landscape window for the composition you want in the second file. Landscape is a wider shape, but it is still framed from cameras on a portrait-held phone. It can show less vertical content and a different crop of the scene.
  5. If the two views need different lenses or directions, choose an available camera setup or rear Dual Lens configuration before capturing.

Video outputs are 9:16 and 16:9. Photo outputs are 3:4 and 4:3, so switching modes changes both preview shapes. Black space around a preview can preserve its intended aspect ratio. Camera controls and teleprompter text are screen overlays and do not become part of the capture.

Enlarge the landscape view

  1. In a setup with two independent cameras, tap the expand-arrows button on the landscape window, Expand landscape preview.
  2. Inspect the larger picture. You can focus there and pinch to zoom it.
  3. Tap its X button, Collapse landscape preview, or tap the dimmed area outside it to return.

The shutter remains available in the expanded view, including Stop recording. A single camera feeding both outputs has no landscape expand button: pinching the main preview moves that one camera for both files. Rear Dual Lens still allows expansion when its Linked Zoom preference is on.

Opening Camera controls temporarily hides the landscape window. Expanding the landscape view temporarily hides the teleprompter; collapsing restores it. Settings and Scripts cover the viewfinder, so close the sheet to check framing again. Seeing REC inside Scripts means recording continues under that sheet.
